This information should end up in a Knowledge Base article, I thought I'd post it here too for broader accessWe have a .Mac user who has been using iChat via AIM. I set him up on our IM320 with Barracuda Mac client. He wasn't able to get connected to AIM using his "firstname.lastname@example.org" account, which had worked just fine with iChat. The system connects to AIM but then quickly errors with "AIM connection lost! Reason: Connection rejected"* The problem was that the user was using "email@example.com" for the AIM username in the Barracuda Client configuration. HOWEVER, that screen-name had never been directly registered via http://www.aim.com/, so the AIM service as accessed via the Barracuda did not allow the login. (It appears that iChat and Apple are doing some behind-the-scenes work to accept @mac.com screen name.)The solution was to officially register the "firstname.lastname@example.org" screen name with AIM:1. Go to http://www.aim.com/ 2. Click the "Get a Screen Name" link in the upper-right corner of the page. 3. Select the "Use an existing e-mail address as a Screen Name" button on the sign-up page, then click "Continue". 4. Fill in the required information, using the "email@example.com" email address. 5. You will receive a confirmation email at that email account -- follow the instructions to validate your account. 6. Now go to the Barracuda client and specify "firstname.lastname@example.org" as your screen name in the Settings -> Public IM Accounts -> AIM configuration. The client was then able to connect to the AIM transport and had access to their AIM Buddy List.
