according to vmware (http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1009465) it is recomended to increase the disk timeout values for linux virtual machines for vsphere 4 and higher the values should be 180

but on a barracuda-vmware-cc the values are:
/sys/class/scsi_generic/sg0/device/timeout:30
/sys/class/scsi_generic/sg1/device/timeout:60

because we had problems we had to set these parameters with a workaround within the userscripts of the nic to ensure that these values are set soon after any boot!
please check if you can change the actual default parameters within your vm-image to the recommended values to avoid problems and that no workaround is needed.
