Yosemite 10.5.00.48528

DELL TL2000 LTO-6

Windows 2012

I have setup to baackup a Shared Folder to TAPE (Copy backup). While the file selection is only 3TB (Single File), the backup is using more than 2 LTO-6 Tapes.

Has anyone encounter the same issue before?

Thanks.

Regards,

MY

I am not sure on the capacity of the LT06 tapes but what's the data type in the file being backed up?  Media files such as recording and movies don't really compress much when placed to tape.  If your backing up system images files such as ghost or windows image files.  They are already compressed and won't compress much more when backed up to tape. Text based stuff compresses a lot.   Also maybe double check your autoloader to see if hardware compression is turned on, but keep in mind even if it is on some data type just don't not compress.  We have 4.5 TB of mp3/mp4 audio recordings that use 6 - LT04 tapes to back up I have another type of mp3 audio that takes 4 of the same tapes for 2 TB.
