In light of recent developments around the "Grizzly Steppe" malware, I have been asked by my management to reach out to Barracuda to determine what is being done to mitigate this threat.  We already have password protected zip files blocked.  Is there anything else we can be doing to protect ourselves?

James,

Barracuda has several layers of virus protection we use and if the virus or malware is know we will stop it at the appliance.

As with any new virus if the definition is not yet in our system the attachment will make it through.

Barracuda recommends that everyone have multiple virus scanners on their network at the server and workstation level.

We also recommend that people never open an attachment unless it is something they are expecting. If you get an email with an attachment and you are not sure if it is legitimate then the best thing you can do is email the sender and verify what they sent you is real. If they don't respond or don't know what you are talking about then chances are it is a virus and should be deleted.

Sincerely,
