Temporary Connectivity Issues with European ATD Cloud

 

Summary: On February 8th 2017, 8:30 am CET, an update in one of our European datacenters lead to temporary connectivity issues and delays for pending file analysis tasks. Unfortunately also the automatic failover to other European ATD instances did not work seamlessly. As a result, some Firewall devices were no longer able to dispatch files for cloud emulation. 

 

Mitigation: February 8th, 2017, 2:50 PM CET - After thorough investigations the Barracuda Operations Team was able to pinpoint and remediate the error. 

 

We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this issue. We are constantly evaluating our quality assurance and operations processes and took appropriate measures to immunize our systems against similar incidents in the future.

Maintenance Update of our ATP backend services in FRANKFURT on Thursday, November 16 2017, 5pm to 8pm (UTC/GMT+01:00)
 
We are planning to update the Advanced Threat Protection (ATP) backend services in FRANKFURT to provide better detection coverage.
 
Systems running on firmware version 7.1.x will automatically fail over to a different backend system in Europe.
For systems running firmware versions 6.0.x, 6.2.x and 7.0.x please check in the FIREWALL HISTORY Tab if you have recent LOUT connections to 95.172.75.69 (FRANKFURT DC). In this case we recommend a manual restart of the AV-Service within the respective time span. This will trigger a failover to a different backend system in Europe.
 
 
How to restart AV-Service:
  • CLI (for scripting) "phionctrl module stop virscan" - the service will restart automatically
  • Manually via the Server Page
 
FAQ:
 
Q: Why is a service restart of the Virus-Scanner service required?
A: The Virus-Scanner service on the Barracuda NextGen Firewall handles the connection to the ATD/ATP backend service in the datacenters. The Backend changes will be picked up by the Virus-Scanner service automatically, however in some cases this may leave some files in the cloud queue orphaned and no longer accessible once the Virus-Scanner service has picked up the new services.
