Block Emails with Blank Subject

Best Answer NetworkTeam, 09 January 2020 - 03:40 PM

Bud,

Create a regular expression on the Barracuda Email Gateway.  Go to:  Block/Accept => Content Filtering

Pattern = subject:.?$

Comment = Missing Subject

Inbound = Block   (Maybe start out with Tag)

Outbound = Off

Subject = leave blank (unchecked)

Header = Check mark

Body = leave blank (unchecked)

Bulk Edit = subject:.?$,Missing Subject,Block,Off,0,1,0

The other way is to call Barracuda support and have them increase this spamassassin rule:

1.28 MISSING_SUBJECT_2      Missing Subject: header

Have them change the 1.28 number to anything larger that will block it according to your settings under Basic => Spam Checking => Spam Scoring Limits

Is there a way to block incoming emails that have a blank subject?

It seems to be becoming a common practice for spammers to trick users into opening the email.
